Mounting a Fuel Rail

The Extrudabody Fuel Rail System is can be mounted to your engine in many ways without requiring that mounting holes be drilled in the rail itself.  We believe we are the only fuel rail manufacturer that doesn’t need to drill a mounting hole to be infinitely mounted! Our Rail was made both to mate perfectly with our upcoming line of Throttle Bodies, but also to meet a need for customized fuel rails without custom prices.  Our Fuel Rail hardware enables mounting at known right angles and simple 45 degree angles. This does not mean you have to use our Fuel Rails with only 45 degree injector angles - just bend your custom bracket to whatever angle you like within reason.

The flexibility in our Rail comes from its "T"-Slot which runs along the entire length of the rail and can hold the head of a 6mm Hex Head Bolt.   These bolts can either be used with our Fuel Rail Struts as shown below, or can be connected to simple aluminum brackets or stock that you create to fix your rail to your throttle body or intake manifold.

Overview of Mounting Hardware:

As you see above, the T-Slot locates the bolts at a 45 degree angle from the fuel injectors.  Since fuel injectors are generally fire into throttle bodies at 45 degrees, the bolts can connect to mounting hardware parallel to your throttle bodies.  Below, you can see how our Rail mounts to our ITBs using a Fuel Rail Strut along with a Stand-off and the appropriate length bolt.

A Variety of Uses for Stand-offs:

Bolts of different lengths can be utilized to stack Fuel Rail Struts in different lengths or reverse mount the Struts for other bracket needs. Also you can use “L” or “Z” Angled Aluminum to achieve any injector angle mounting you desire. The Struts and Standoffs can be incorporated in various ways to hold Fuel Pressure Regulators, Idle Air Control Valves, and Wire Looms.  The above picture shows an Idle Air Control housing that we are developing now.

The Standoffs may also be used to vary the distance between fuel rails and injectors, for instance to enable use of Pico Injectors. If you are trying to utilize our fuel rail in a tight hood Clearance situation you have options to shorten the standoffs to fit the new shorter Pico Injectors!

Important Notes (PLEASE READ ALL THESE POINTS COMPLETELY!):

  • Do not secure your fuel rail to any part of your engine except your throttle bodies, intake manifold, or the engine itself.  The rail must move directly with the engine as it flexes against the motor mounts.
  • Do not use our fuel rail system with engines using solid motor mounts.  The Fuel Rail Holders are not designed to withstand the high vibration that results
  • Do not tighten the Rail Holders so much that the fuel injectors cannot move 1-2mm back and forth.  Over tightening the Rail Holders puts too much stress on the Holder and can lead to failure.
  • Always use Loctite and/or locking washers or nuts on all bolts & nuts in the fuel rail system.  Failure to secure the fuel rail sufficiently can result in the rail being pushed off the fuel injectors due to fuel pressure within the rail.

Assembly Instructions: It is not possible to provide comprehensive assembly instructions for installing our fuel rail with to non-Extrudabody ITBs or manifolds.  Depending on your application, you may make use of all our mounting hardware, use your own brackets, or a combination of the two.  Again, our philosophy is to provide flexible hardware and leave it to you to create a solution for your engine.  Feel free to call or contact us if you would like some helpful hints.
